Surabaya, Indonesia. On May 18, 2025, CorrosaLab, a global consulting agency based in Estonia, partnered with Riset Prima Asia, an Indonesia-based research organization, to introduce responsible artificial intelligence (AI) education to the students of Santo Yakobus Orphanage in Surabaya. The event, led by CorrosaLab co-founder Sebastian Ateng and Riset Prima Asia co-founder Helena Tipawael, aimed to empower 13 to 17-year-old students with critical thinking skills, creativity, and safe AI usage through an engaging, screen-free learning experience.
The interactive session, which reached dozens of students, was designed to inspire curiosity about AI while instilling ethical and thoughtful approaches to its use. Many of the participants had never encountered AI before, making the program a memorable and impactful learning opportunity.

Testimonials Highlight the Impact
The 45-minute program was divided into four key segments:- What is AI?: Students were introduced to the basics of AI, exploring its everyday applications and its role as a “super-fast learning buddy.”
- AI Brain vs. Human Brain: Through movement and debate, participants discussed the differences between machine capabilities and human judgment, empathy, and ethics.
- 3Cs: Creative, Critical, Careful: Students engaged in creative and critical thinking activities, learning to use AI responsibly by reflecting on its ethical implications.
- Live Demo: ChatGPT in Action: The session concluded with a supervised live demonstration of AI, where students explored educational prompts designed to align with their school curriculum.

To make the experience more accessible, CorrosaLab and Riset Prima Asia provided internet access and age-appropriate prompts for students to practice, such as summarizing photosynthesis in simple terms or creating quiz questions about Indonesian history.

Reflections on Learning AI the Responsible Way
“Today was eye-opening for the kids. Many had never heard about AI before. I could see their excitement grow. I hope this kind of learning doesn’t stop here,” said Suster Florentina Alwer, Head of Santo Yakobus Orphanage.

Arya, an 8th-grade participant, shared, “AI is a tool made by people, but we still need to think for ourselves. My advice: use AI wisely, and don’t use it to do anything bad.”
Another participant, Ancis, an 11th grader, added, “To use AI responsibly, we need to be critical, creative, and careful. Like checking our words, thinking of ideas, and not sharing personal data. That’s what I learned today.”
Building Access to Responsible AI Learning for All
This initiative emphasizes our dedication to democratizing digital knowledge and fostering responsible AI use in underserved communities. Beyond introducing technology, the session emphasized ethical AI practices, curiosity, and thoughtful creation. We are aiming to empower students with skills for the future.
